“The son of a Philadelphia policeman, Fabian - known then as Tony (Forte) – was ‘discovered’ at the age of 14 by manager Bob Marcucci. Mr. Marcucci, who had already launched the career of Frankie Avalon, spotted the young Fabian weeping on the front stoop as an ambulance carried away his father, who had just had a heart attack.
